Common Shelducks

(Tadorna tadorna)

Common Shelducks rank among the most attractive of European waterfowl. The superior-size, longer-legged, shows a large red, shield like enlargement at the bass of the bill. Unlike other Shelducks, Common Shelducks feed selectively, primarily on small marine invertebrates. Birds from northwestern Europe are saltwater-snail specialists and prey extensively on snails.
